TRIDENT AMATEUR RADIO CLUB MINUTES


The meeting was called to order by President Dave Fuseler NJ4F on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Cross Building. A quorum was present.


A roster was circulated for attendance and changes to member information. 31 members present


6 Guests were present: (Mark Holt KB4QHI, Dovie Holt KC4COH, Roger Eslick N0VR, Joseph Calerone KI4DVN, Jason Kelley KC7EKU and Valsigna Redwine)


Report of the officers:

President (Dave NJ4F) – no report


Vice President (Bob K4RSP) – no report


Secretary (Cheryl K4CAF) - Minutes of the previous club meeting were emailed to club members. The minutes were approved with a correction to the power of the generator that we were thinking of buying.


Treasurer (Sandy KG4ECX) Sandy presented the Treasurer’s Report as follows:


Opening Balance $ 3,329.00

Deposits $ 547.00

Disbursements $ 624.59

Ending Balance $3,251.41


COMMITTEE REPORTS


JOTA – Landy Young (W4SQL) – All went well at Oscar’s place. One of the Scouts talked to the World Scout Headquarters in Geneva. Activity at Camp Moultrie was slow.


Phone – Thelma McLeod (K4MJ) – Thelma made 38 phone calls prior to this month’s meeting.


PIO/Public Relations – Dennis Zabawa (KG4RUL) – We can pass along JOTA write-ups to ARRL. The Race for the Cure had several hams participating working the 5K walk and run. Rutledge Tower repeater was used.


Awards – Bob McLeod K4RSP as chairman of the awards committee asked for nominations for Ham of the Year and other outstanding service awards to be presented at the Christmas party. Bob distributed ballots and said he would take nominations by email. Some justification should be provided as to why the person deserves the award.


Program – Landy - - Joe Calderone was giving the program on the National Weather Service


QSL Manager (Cheryl K4CAF) – a couple of cards had been sent out in response to cards we received. Once JOTA logs are received, Cheryl will send out necessary cards.

Webmaster (Paul NN4F) – everything on the web site is up to date


AREA/RACES – anyone interested should contact Ed Steeble K3IXD or Darrell Moser, KB7QVG. Dorchester Co. group meets on 2nd Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Law Complex. Berkeley County meets October 25th. Dennis KG4RUL has info.


UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Cheryl K4CAF reminded everyone of the club Christmas party to be held on our regular meeting night, December 15th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 per person and spouses/dates are welcome. The party will be held at the Knights of Pythias Hall at 1820 Belgrade Ave. West Ashley behind the South Carolina Federal Credit Union on Sam Rittenberg Avenue. Everyone is encouraged to buy their tickets by the November meeting but the absolute last date to buy tickets is December 1st. WE WILL NOT BE SELLING TICKETS AT THE DOOR

NEW BUSINESS

We discussed a donation in memory of Oscar Meyer’s (AI4SS) mother. The family had listed two charities and the club chose to send the donation to the Alzheimer’s’ Association.


Membership applications for Roger Eslick N0VR and Jason Kelley KC7EKU were accepted by the club.


Announcements: October 25th is the Worldwide CQ WW DX SSB contest. November 15 is the ARRL Sweepstakes SSB. The School Club Roundup was the week of October 20th. Ed K3IXD and Pete W2GJ were leaving for the Bahamas. The VE Team gives tests on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Goose Creek lodge at 7:00.


Raffle Amount of $29 was one by Dave, NJ4F.


Joe Calderone presented a very interesting program on the organization and mission of the National Weather Service.
